Drivers license renewal Philippines location

Instead of going to the Land Transportation Office, you can now go to LTO driver license renewal centers, which are built to shorten the waiting time for applicants. They are located in malls and open on Saturdays too, so you can go there on days when you don’t have work.

If you go to LTO offices, they open at 8 AM and close at 5 PM, but you should be there earlier than the opening time and do go when it’s already close to the closing time. If you go to LTO renewal centers, they open at the same time as the malls, which is around 10 AM.

Drivers license renewal for OFW (overseas Filipino worker)

Starting April 2007, the Land Transportation Office allows all Filipino citizens that currently stay abroad with authentic Philippine driver’s licenses to renew their licenses through an authorized representative in the country. Here’s the process to follow:

The representative has to present themselves to the Land Transportation Office, the License Section Central Office within the NCR, or an LTO District Office/Licensing Center. They have to meet these requirements:

  • Bring the certificate of employment of the licensee
  • Bring the photocopies of their passport
  • Bring the letter of authority to an authorized representative
  • Bring a photocopy of the driver’s license
  • Bring the driver’s license receipt (if available)

After the representative presents the requirements and pays the related fees, the license will be validated and a driver’s license receipt will be issued, serving as a temporary driver’s license.

The licensee will then have to present themselves within 30 days after arriving in the Philippines to the exact same office for photo-taking and submit additional documents, including:

  • The original driver’s license receipt
  • The expired driver’s license
  • Drug test result
  • Medical examination certificate
  • A photocopy of TIN Card or TIN number
  • A photocopy of the passport

The LTO office will then retrieve the documents submitted by the representative to incorporate them with the other requirements. These documents will be processed and after approval, will recommend for the release of the driver’s license to the licensee. The licensee will have to pay two more fees, including a renewal fee (P180 to P240) and penalties for the expiration of the license (P30 to 120P, depending on the time and either professional or non-professional).

The list of drivers license renewal requirements doesn’t have too many items to follow, but you need to be very careful with the procedures, making sure you have obtained all the required documents before you go to the renewal office. Otherwise, you will waste both your and the officers’ time.
