May 31, 2021 0 By onroadtips

The first thing anyone learned about traffic is to stop at a red light and only go when the light turns green. This is true everywhere in the world, including the Philippines. However, there’s more to the traffic light as the red, green, yellow rounds are not the only thing you see here. Today, Onroadtips will discuss the traffic light sign and what you are expected to do when you see them.

Traffic lights meaning

Red light

When the red traffic light signal illuminates, you must stop in front of the zebra crossing. The red light allows vehicles from other directions to move and helps pedestrians cross the road safely. In some cases, you are allowed to make a right turn at a red light if there are no pedestrians. However, if there’s a sign saying “No Turn on Red,” don’t go against it.

If a regular red light prohibits you from moving, the red arrow light specifically prohibits you from turning at any direction it indicates, either left or right. Once it turns off and the green one turns on, you can go. On the other hand, if it flashes, you must stop before turning.

Yellow light

When you see the yellow light, it means the red light will soon illuminate. In this case, you are expected to stop if it’s safe and if you are not at an intersection. If you only slow down at the yellow light, you ought to look carefully and beware of oncoming vehicles.

The traffic light sign meaning of this light is that you can turn in the direction indicated by the arrow. Nevertheless, remember to proceed with caution and beware of oncoming vehicles.

Greenlight

When you see this light, you are allowed to keep moving, but that doesn’t mean you can just drive fast past the light without caring about other people. You still need to look carefully in case there are pedestrians crossing the road so as not to crash into them.

At the same time, even at a green light, you can’t always turn left. Pay attention to traffic light signs and the traffic surrounding you.
